Things to do in the area
Seven Mile Beach extends from Gerroa to Shoalhaven Heads. It is an extremely open beach, which experiences quite windy conditions. Council provides a lifeguard patrol at the northern end of the beach, seven days per week during the Christmas/New year period. While the beach is suitable for all beach activities, it experiences dangerous conditions in big seas. Beach goers should exercise care and only swim during patrol times. Seven Mile Beach is regularly utilised by wind surfers and kite surfers.
Werri Beach is an excellent surf beach of approximately 1.5km in length. The surf club is located at the southern end of the beach. Werri Beach is patrolled by volunteer lifesavers on weekends and public holidays throughout the summer season. Kiama Council's professional lifeguards also patrol Monday to Friday during the Christmas/New Year holiday period. The beach is generally suitable for surfboard riding, body board riding and body surfing. It experiences dangerous conditions at times so beach goers should exercise caution and only swim during patrol times.
Jamberoo Recreation Park features sensational bobsleds, speed cars or wet racers, two giant water slides and spectacular views from the chairlift. Have a round of landscape golf, feed the wildlife or relax in The Loft. A full day of action!

Boat Harbour Gerringong - access from Jupiter Street. Ample parking, fish cleaning facilities and amenities are available in the public reserve. Note - This ramp is unsuitable during large swells. Always ensure you have enough fuel to reach an alternative.
Little Beach Gerroa - access off Burke Parade and across sand flats. The concrete ramp is often covered by firm sand. Unformed parking is available on the sand under the cliff face. No amenities located in vicinity.

Marlin, yellowfin tuna, kingfish, mulloway (jewfish), snapper, flathead & morwong are all within easy reach from a boat launched at one of our boat ramps. Watch for the surge if launching a boat at Gerringong Boat Harbour.
Seven Mile Beach is famous for its whiting during the summer months as well as bream, tailor, salmon, flathead and mulloway. Crooked River is a popular place for prawns, good size bream and flathead.
Black Head, Gerroa has a car park and tracks leading to the rock platform below which is a good spot for catching bream, kingfish, snapper, drummer, trevally, salmon, tailor and groper. Be very careful as the waves can be dangerous.
Boat Harbour, at the end of Jupiter Street, has a pretty picnic area which has been landscaped and maintained by the local Lions Club. The park contains a gazebo, BBQ and access to a large sea-fed swimming pool. There is a public boat ramp, a mere reminder of the 100 metre jetty which was erected in 1851 and serviced the Sydney shipping trade. See rusting chain anchor points set into the rocks.
Werri Beach - a number of picnic tables are provided down the length of Pacific Avenue, between the road and the beach.

Kingsford Smith Memorial Park, Gerroa.
Tidal swimming pools are located on the rock platform at the southern end of Werri Beach, which has a smooth, sloping concrete floor and at Boat Harbour, which has a floor of natural rock with a sandy beach at the shallow end. Werri Beach also has a small concrete wading pool suitable for young children.
The pools and surrounding rock-shelf are subject to natural wave action during high tides.

Killalea State Park
Area walks: Hoddles Track starting from Saddleback Mountain, Griffins Trail, located at Barren Grounds Nature Reserve, the Coastal Trail, from Kiama to Gerringong, and Bushbank Mill track (just south of Kiama). Seven Mile Beach National Park, Coomonderry Swamp, where there is extensive birdlife. It is the largest remaining freshwater swamp on the NSW coast is an important breeding ground for several birds. The swamp is situated off the Coolangatta Road just before Shoalhaven Heads.
Seven Mile Beach National Park at Beach Road the new wooden walkway to the beach and viewing platform and the nearby car park provide easy beach access to all, including the disabled.

Gerringong History Museum, 10 Blackwood Street. One of the best small museums in NSW. Dedicated to our pioneers, exhibits include Kingsford Smith's history and display, dairying and fascinating scale models. Well worth a visit. Open 1-4pm Sat & Sun. Phone 4234 1796.
Family History Centre, Railway Parade, Kiama. It features a worldwide collection of records to assist with compiling your family tree. Open 9.30am-4.30pm seven days. Illawarra Light Railway, Tongarra Road, Albion Park (20 mins north of Gerringong). Fascinating display of vintage carriages and steam engines including the restored "Kiama", used to haul blue metal (c1917). Train rides are available, a great outing! The ticket office and kiosk are housed in the original rail terminus of the south coast railway of the 1890s. Charges vary from single train rides to family tickets and are available from our ticket office, the former station building from Yallah, built in 1888. The picnic area has barbeques available. Kiosk, souvenir sales and catering for light refreshments are available from the dining car on the main platform. A miniature railway runs through the bushland setting. This museum caters for the restoration of the narrow gauge locomotive steam and diesel along with narrow gauge rolling stock that has been collected over the years.
Museum is open to visitors on most Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays between 10am-3pm for inspection and use of facilities. Free entry however donations are most welcome.
Steam train rides are held on the 2nd Sunday of each month, Sundays of most public holiday weekends and the 4th Sunday of January from 11.30am-4.30pm. Phone 4256 4627.

Kingsford Smith Memorial Lookout, overlooking Seven Mile Beach - the location selected by Sir Charles Kingsford Smith for his historic flight to New Zealand January 11, 1933. This is well worth a visit. A recent commemoration of the lookout celebrated the 65th anniversary of this momentous event and a plaque laid by Gerroa's community is on display near the outline of his aircraft the "Southern Cross".
